Daisy Lane Handbag – Free Crochet Pattern

Daisy Lane Handbag - free crochet pattern

There is nothing like a cute crochet handbag, and I love this latest addition to my collection! I am calling it the Daisy Lane Handbag because of its sweet and simple daisy detail. The body of the bag is made using my favorite super bulky yarn, Lion Brand Hometown USA, in one of my favorite colors – Hoboken Honey. However, any super bulky yarn will work.

The daisy detail is made by simply looping several lengths of yarn through the holes crocheted into the body of the bag. How easy is that? I hope you enjoy this crochet handbag pattern!

On a side note, have you noticed some changes here on the blog? I haven’t gotten as many patterns written up lately because I have been working on two new additions to the blog.

The first is that you can now subscribe to this blog! I will send out an email when I post a new pattern. No spam!!

The second is that you can now find me on Ravelry! Some of my patterns are already there, and I hope to get all of my patterns uploaded within the next few weeks.

I’d like to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has supported this blog by visiting and  commenting. I love hearing from you!

Now, on to the pattern….

A Note About Handles:

You certainly do not have to use the same purse handles that I used, but if you want to be able to attach your handles using the pattern instructions, you will need to use handles that attach to the purse via O-rings or D-rings.

Instructions:

This purse is worked mostly in continuous rounds without turning or chaining between rounds, with the exception of rounds 17 – 19, where you will work a little differently in order to crochet the purse handles directly into the body of the purse.

Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round.

Round 1:

With Hoboken Honey, ch 30, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each st across, 3 sc in last st, sc in each st across opposite side ending with 2 sc in the 1st ch. (60 sts)

Below is a photo tutorial showing how to work over the O-ring.

Daisy Lane Handbag - daisy detail

To add the daisy detail:

Cut 36 lengths of Houston Cream yarn. Each length should be 35″ long. Six lengths are used on each daisy. There are 3 daisies on each side of the crochet handbag.

Each daisy is formed by looping yarn between the holes crocheted in rounds 9, 11, and 13. Each daisy is worked over 9 holes. In the photo below, I have numbered the holes for first daisy and have partially worked the second daisy.

Daisy Lane Handbag - diagram

To create the first daisy, hold 6  strands of yarn together. Feed the yarn from the back side of the panel up through the center hole of the daisy (marked 1 in the photo above). Now feed the yarn down through the top hole (marked 2 in the photo above). Feed back up through the center hole (marked 1 in the photo above), and down through the next outer hole (marked 3 in the photo above), repeating until you have worked your way around the nine holes in a clock-wise manner (feeding up through the center hole each time). Hide the ends by tucking them under “petals” of the daisy until they are secure.
